(London) – Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc, has announced the winners at its annual ‘Aviva Investors Sustainability Media Awards’, which seek to recognise excellence in journalism and reporting on sustainability-linked topics across the UK media.
Now in its fifth year, the Awards aim to celebrate the consistently high standards in sustainability journalism across national, trade and specialist media publications over the past year.
Almost 100 submissions were received in total for this year’s awards, which were submitted across 13 different categories at a prize-giving ceremony at Aviva’s Hoxton office, London, on Wednesday 5th November.
To maintain impartiality and objectivity, entries were anonymised and judged by a panel of independent industry figures and sustainability experts, led by Chief Judge, Steve Waygood, Chief Sustainable Finance Officer at Aviva Investors.
Responsible Investor was presented with the ‘Publication of the Year’ award, with the Financial Times’ Moral Money Highly Commended. Elsewhere, Lauren Mills, Private Markets Editor at IPE Real Assets, was recognised as the ‘Journalist of the Year’ in the individual awards categories, with Simon Mundy, Moral Money Editor at the Financial Times’ Moral Money being Highly Commended. Professional Wealth Management’s Ali Al-Enazi received the ‘Emerging talent of the Year’ award.
The judging panel for this year’s Aviva Investors Sustainability Media Awards included:
- James Alexander, Chief Executive Officer, UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF)
- Richard Spencer, Director of Sustainability, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
- Tamsin Ballard, Chief Investor Initiatives Officer, Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)
Mark Versey, Chief Executive Officer at Aviva Investors, said:
"We maintain the view that sustainability can play a fundamental role in investment performance, whether that relates to the financial risks of being exposed to physical climate effects, or capturing the opportunities and returns available to investors who are willing to back new sectors and technologies. As the debate around the topic continues to become more nuanced, it is incredibly important that journalists continue to interrogate the issues, trends and dialogues happening across the industry. It is thanks to the exceptional standard of reporting on show at these awards, that the sustainability debate remains thoughtful, reflective of different perspectives, and responsive to the industry’s evolving challenges. We were thoroughly privileged to judge and recognise such a high calibre of work through these awards once again.”
