Infographic: How does multi-strategy investing work?

Watch this 5 minute infographic video to find out how multi-strategy investing can be used to target specific investment outcomes.

Many traditional funds will invest in one, or a number of asset classes such as equities, bonds or property on a long-only basis.

Typically, the return objectives of these types of funds are measured in relation to a particular benchmark or index, such as the FTSE 100.

By contrast, multi-strategy funds invest across a wide set of asset classes and will often make more focused allocations to particular markets or themes, more so even than most multi-asset funds. Importantly, the multi-strategy approach allows the fund manager to take both long and short position.

This allows the investment managers of multi-strategy funds to express a far wider range of investment views with the aim of targeting specific client outcomes, as opposed to attempting to deliver a return objective set to a benchmark. It can also provide additional opportunities for the investment team to manage the volatility of returns and the risk of capital loss within the portfolio.
