Biography

Main responsibilities

Abigail’s work focuses on reform of the financial markets to address systemic risks and market failures, with a particular focus on biodiversity loss and public health. She works within Aviva Investor’s Sustainable Finance Centre for Excellence which seeks to transform capital markets so that they support long term sustainable development.

Experience and qualifications

Abigail has 18 years’ experience working across every aspect of buy-side ESG. She holds qualifications spanning ES&G as well as being a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and having a finance degree. 

On maternity leave, Abigail completed a Masters in Sustainability Leadership focusing on antibiotic resistance at the University of Cambridge which won the Forum pour l´Investissement Responsable (French Social Investment Forum) and Principles of Responsible Investment (UNPRI) award for best Masters thesis, 2020. She works with the Investor Action on AMR project to address the market failure of AMR and is the co-founder of the Superbugs and Super Risks series of reports on antibiotic resistance.

Abigail is a qualified chartered company secretary, a fellow of (and judge at) the Chartered Governance Institute, and a judge for the Investor Relations Society and the FT.

She is also a contributing author to several books including: Around the World in 80 Species (Routledge, 2018); The Business of Bees: Bee Decline and Corporate Responsibility (Routledge, 2017) and The Business of Farm Animal Welfare (Routledge, 2017

Abigail previously headed up corporate governance at ESG pioneers, the Co-operative Asset Management (TCAM) now Royal London. TCAM became the first investor in the world to ascribe to the Stewardship Code and to factor in gender into their voting policy.
